Pipe Dream

Style: Imperial India Pale Ale

ABV: 8.0%

IBU: 45

Malt: 2-Row, Wheat, Oats

Hops: Hallertau Blanc, Belma

Brewed with generous amounts of Flaked Oats and Malted White Wheat for a creamy and soft body. Pipe Dream pours a beautiful shade of light orange with an enchanting haze and fluffy white head that clings to the glass as you sip. Hops dominate the aroma and flavor but are supported by a unique fermentation character of apricot and pineapple achieved with one of our custom yeast blends specifically designed for this beer.

Pipe Dream traces its lineage back to the original Funk “Project Haze” series of 2016-2017. Specifically “Project Haze #5”. For the first 4 in the series we had focused on hops we had experience using (Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo, El Dorado, Centennial, etc.) and were confident in the results we would achieve. For #5 we went outside the box a little and after some thought and getting some hop samples we ended up on the unique combination of Hallertau Blanc and Belma hops. Hallertau Blanc is a newer German hop variety that has very prominent flavors of lemon and white wine grapes with a pleasant herbal grassiness underneath. Belma is a variety exclusive to Puterbaugh Farms in the Yakima Valley of Washington. Belma is a wild breed that was found growing up the side of the farm’s packing facility. It has a unique strawberry aroma with notes of melon and grapefruit.

I would recommend treating Pipe Dream as a before or after dinner drink as it might be too intense for most food pairings, but I if had to I would recommend something equally intense or spicy like pepperoni pizza drizzled with hot honey or an curry dish.
